We are seeking to appoint a Deputy of Faculty for our thriving Science faculty who can offer all sciences at KS3 and KS4 with effect from September 2015. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and outstanding teacher to enhance the leadership of a strong and successful curriculum area. The person appointed will be expected to contribute at a high level to the continuous improvement of learning and teaching in Science. The second in faculty role includes a whole school brief as part of the Teaching and Learning group.

Oathall is an ambitious and forward thinking 11-16 community college with 1000 students. We are strategic partners in a local Teaching School Alliance. The school is ambitious and this is characterized by our high expectations and an absolute commitment to raising standards and achievement for all. We are committed to Continuing Professional Development through a strong training programme.

Science is an innovative and well resourced faculty that offers a wide range of learning opportunities. A high proportion of students continue their studies at A level.

Lambing Day 2015

Yesterday, the sun shone on a wonderful lambing day down on the farm. Our students engaged with our local community providing explanations about the farm and lambing in particular. Lots of our visitors were given a great opportunity to handle the lambs and to get a real hands-on farming experience. Don’t forget, if you missed lambing day there’s still an opportunity to see the farm in action at our annual farm open day on Sunday 17 May.

Students in Year 7 were given a fascinating insight into the life of top teen author Alex Scarrow when he visited Oathall on the 16 March 2015. As part of a series of events organised by the English department, Alex Scarrow visited Oathall to talk to students about his life, how he became an author and his new book series, Time Riders. Last Wednesday, a group of year 9 students from Oathall attended a journalism course at the Guardian newspapers London offices, where they got to experience the buzz and pressure of producing a front page using real live articles being prepared by Guardian journalists. (more…)

An amuse-bouche of maths!

Last week, Lucas Foreman, Alex Houlders-Worsfold, John Moore, and Hannah Smith, four of Oathall’s brightest Year 10 mathematicians travelled to Brighton to compete in this year’s ‘Year 10 Maths Feast’ competition.

Organised by the Further Maths Support Programme, the ‘Maths Feast’ is a competition with a menu of challenges designed to test students’ creativity in problem solving, team working and communication skills. (more…)

Our first set of twins born on 3 March.

On Tuesday 3 March, our first lambs, a set of twins were born on the farm. This is the first birth from 13 of our ewes who are expecting lambs before Easter.

After Easter, it will be the turn of our remaining 22 black-faced Suffolks to give birth. In total, we are expecting our ewes to give birth to 25 sets of twins and 9 singles.

You can come along and see all of the lambs on Sunday 19 April at our annual Lambing Day. Free entry with a BBQ and refreshments. Donations as always are more than welcome.

Oathall’s dancers have all the right moves

‘Hardship & Inequality’ was the theme for Oathall’s 2015 Rock Challenge performance and last night it proved to be a winner for the judges and audience alike. Oathall’s performance won six individual awards of excellence and we were placed third overall. This was a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.

For the last seven months, 80 performers and 12 make-up, lighting and stage assistants have planned, choreographed and practised for a one night only performance at The Hawth, in Crawley. For many of the students it was their first opportunity to perform in a professional theatre in front of a large audience and they did so with confidence and flair.
