The concept of the Duke of Edinburgh award is simple – anyone aged between 14 and 24 can do a programme at one of the three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold award. Oathall offers the award at Bronze level (Year 9).

With assistance from adult leaders, participants select and set objectives in each of the following areas:

  • Volunteering – undertaking service to individuals or the community
  • Physical – improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities
  • Skills – developing practical and social skills and personal interests
  • Expedition- planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK

The award is run and overseen by the Mid Sussex Open Duke of Edinburgh Centre who run the course at Oathall’s Albemarle Centre and are working in collaboration with the school. The cost for the course is £130. Sessions will take place on Wednesday Evenings 7pm-9pm plus there will be weekend training during the year in addition to the expedition. It is anticipated that the Bronze Award will be completed in 12 months.
