After Easter, it will be the turn of our remaining 22 black-faced Suffolks to give birth. In total, we are expecting our ewes to give birth to 25 sets of twins and 9 singles.

You can come along and see all of the lambs on Sunday 19 April at our annual Lambing Day. Free entry with a BBQ and refreshments. Donations as always are more than welcome.

Oathall’s dancers have all the right moves

3rd March 2015J Godbolt

‘Hardship & Inequality’ was the theme for Oathall’s 2015 Rock Challenge performance and last night it proved to be a winner for the judges and audience alike. Oathall’s performance won six individual awards of excellence and we were placed third overall. This was a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.

Dancers in Year 11 getting into character before their performance

For the last seven months, 80 performers and 12 make-up, lighting and stage assistants have planned, choreographed and practised for a one night only performance at The Hawth, in Crawley. For many of the students it was their first opportunity to perform in a professional theatre in front of a large audience and they did so with confidence and flair.

To Kill A Mockingbird – review by Charlotte Weller

2nd February 2015J Godbolt

On Friday 23rd of January, 50 pupils from year 11 piled onto a coach and journeyed to Chichester. We went to see the Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of ‘To Kill  Mockingbird’, the groundbreaking and literary classic written by Harper Lee.

To_Kill_a_Mockingbird_54181775675db‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is one of the exam texts that two of the year 11 English Literature classes are studying. Seeing the book in front of us visually in the form of a play was a fantastic opportunity for us to consolidate our knowledge on the plot, the key themes of the novel and the main characters. This is all essential information we need to understand and include in our English Literature exam.

Making a date with success

speed-dating-event

More photos can be viewed on our Flickr pages.

Students in year 9 have just attended the annual Careers Speed Dating event at Oathall meeting representatives from employment sectors covering the media, healthcare and the sciences, uniformed services, construction, performing arts, engineering, legal services and IT.

The event was run as a means of getting students to talk to a large number of business representatives, encouraging them to find out more about future careers options direct from people employed in their sectors.

It was especially pleasing that some of the 28 participating business representatives were former Oathall students and members of the school’s Alumni Association. Former alumni said of the event:

‘A really enjoyable morning, the students were enthusiastic and welcoming. It’s a brilliant way to show the students about the wide range of career options available and the different routes you can take after school.’
