In early February, 58 Oathall students in Years 9, 10 and 11 took part in this year’s UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. This competition, organised by the charity UK Mathematics Trust is recognised nationally as one of the largest and most prestigious maths competitions.

We are pleased to announce that this year, Oathall’s high performing mathematicians were awarded 4 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze certificates. Gold certificates were awarded to Lucas Foreman, Kathryn Hook, Matt Keeble and John Moore. Only the top 40% of students nationally go on to receive a gold, silver or bronze certificate in the ratio 1:2:3.

We are especially pleased to report that Lucas Foreman and Matt Keeble have subsequently been invited to participate in the pink European Kangaroo round. This round is sat by around 6000 of the most talented students nationally and involves pupils from over 30 countries worldwide.

Mr Taylor, Head of Maths Faculty, said:

“Well done to all of the students who took part this year and special congratulations go to the students who succeeded in achieving certificates. Good luck to our two highest scoring students as they go on to participate in the Intermediate Kangaroo round.”
