Oathall is supporting this great cause

Our school will be supporting Sport Relief on Friday 21 March 2014.

In return for a donation all OCC students can come to school for the day in their own clothes (not fancy dress).

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will also be taking part in a fun run round the school fields; the dress code for this year’s run is anything beginning with the letter S or R so we want to see lots of sparkly, red, riotous, striped or spotty costumes for this fantastic cause!

Our champion cricketers

Our U15 girls are Sussex Indoor Cricket Champions 2014.

28 schools from across the county entered the Lady Taverners Under 15 Indoor Cricket Tournament – the biggest field of entries to date.  Oathall Community College’s team of 10 prevailed at the county final with a consistently strong showing in all three rounds of play.

They will now go forward to represent Sussex at the regional finals of the tournament on Thursday 3 April in Surrey.

Ms Laura Gyngell from the PE department said: “Our girls stamped their mark early on in the tournament beating rivals from the likes of Brighton College and Oakmeeds with ease. This is a fantastic achievement and the team should feel very proud of the result and their professional conduct.”

A new Sussex X Ayrshire heifer calf called Holly has joined the Oathall family and new piglets are expected very soon.

Our dancers ahead of their performance

On Friday 14 March a group from Oathall Community College took part in the West Sussex Dance Time festival.

The now annual event allows young people the opportunity to perform at professional theatres; over 1000 students from primary, secondary and special schools took part this year.

Oathall’s KS3 Contemporary Dance Club performed a moving piece at The Hawth in Crawley called ‘Safe and Sound’ which drew inspiration from a quote by Abraham Lincoln:

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

New arrivals at Oathall Farm mark the start of spring

Lambs born at Oathall Farm

Lambs born at Oathall Farm

Spring arrived at Oathall Farm this weekend with the exciting delivery of three newborn lambs.

First to arrive was a ram before there was double trouble this morning in the shape of twins. Two of our students, Tommy Scott and Jake Scovell, were on hand with some much needed assistance, especially with the breach birth of one of the twins.

The lambs’ arrival this weekend gives them a couple of weeks to get used to their surroundings before they are the stars of the show at our Lambing Day on Sunday, March 30. The farm will be open from 12pm-4pm and entrance is free.

Check out the photos – and lots more from the farm – on our Flickr page.

Their choice matched those of students from across the county, who also picked the book as the winner of the West Sussex Children’s Book Award.
