School Meals at Oathall

30th August 2018Oathall

School meals at Oathall are prepared and served by our own in-house catering team.

Catering Manager Mrs Denyer and her staff are committed to delivering the highest standards using fresh, good quality ingredients. The food and drink that we offer comply with the school food plan standards.

Menus are rotated every three weeks with themed days being a regular feature.  They are varied, nutritionally balanced and cater for all dietary needs. We offer gluten-free menus but ask that your child pre-orders this each day with the canteen team. We operate a nut-free policy but we are not always able to guarantee that nuts are not brought into the school by other children.

If you have any dietary requirements for your child please speak to Mrs Denyer or email her on [email protected] we will do our best to accommodate any requests.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Centre

30th August 2018Oathall

Oathall Community College can proudly boast one of the biggest and most successful units in West Sussex with over 100 students involved in the award at any one time.

The concept of the Duke of Edinburgh award is simple – anyone aged between 14 and 24 can do a programme at one of the three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold award. Oathall offers the award at Bronze level (Year 10).

With assistance from adult leaders, participants select and set objectives in each of the following areas:

  • Volunteering – undertaking service to individuals or the community
  • Physical – improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities
  • Skills – developing practical and social skills and personal interests
  • Expedition- planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad
The award is run and overseen by the Award Centre Coordinator, Miss Arlington.   If you have any questions or want to find out more about the award please contact the school.

Oathall Farm

4th December 2012Oathall

Few schools can boast a farm and we are delighted to have such a valuable and unusual feature as a school facility. Our extensive fields, animal enclosures, barn and farming equipment enable us to keep a wide variety of livestock. The farm creates many opportunities for learning across the curriculum. Oathall Farm’s contribution both across the curriculum and to students’ personal development is nationally recognised as outstanding.

The farm and farm shop have their own websites which can be accessed here:

What is OPTA?

15th August 2012Oathall

Oathall’s busy Parent Teacher Association (or OPTA) is a friendly and enthusiastic group of people with a desire to contribute positively to school life.

We aim to encourage positive relationships and communication between parents and teachers, tackling the wellbeing of the school and the welfare and development of our children together.

Like other PTAs we fundraise for those extra things that the school budget cannot cater for whilst strengthening the school community through social events and activities.

Albemarle Centre

2nd August 2019Oathall

The Albemarle Centre is part of the Oathall College campus and is used by the college, Hedgehogs nursery, Haywards Heath Youth CIC and Pioneer childcare.  Any enquiries about hiring this facility should be made to [email protected]

Haywards Heath Youth CIC was formed in 2013 after WSCC Youth services cut back their provision for youth activities in this area. The organisation is a not-for-profit community interest company and operates independently of the college and WSCC. They use the centre as a base to offer positive activities for young people. This includes delivering a range of short courses and encouraging and supporting young people in volunteering opportunities. The company also runs a youth club night once a week. As well as this the organisation is able to provide support services and is willing to work with partners to develop the range of youth provision available in the area. For more information please contact 01444 450492 or email: [email protected]

About Oathall Farm

16th May 2019Oathall

The farm is a fantastic facility which enhances student learning at Oathall in many different ways.  We are able to offer recognised vocational qualifications in this field but many different subject areas use it in a practical way to aid learning including art, maths, English, science and even ICT.

Oathall Farm’s contribution both as a curricular support and to students personal development is nationally recognised as outstanding as you can see from this quote from an Ofsted inspector following a visit:

“The farm is a centre of excellence for the college, the local community and for schools nationally and internationally. It provides memorable experiences and cross-curricular learning, generates an impressive network of partnerships, makes community cohesion an exceptionally strong and working reality and motivates students of all abilities.”

There has been a farm at Oathall for over 70 years, it was established in the Second World War and is now made up of extensive fields, animal enclosures, a large barn and glasshouse to grow seasonal plants.  We keep a variety of livestock including pigs, cattle, sheep and poultry.

In recent years we’ve welcomed visitors such as HRH Prince of Wales and Alan Titchmarsh to the farm as well as hundreds of school and community groups.

Each May we hold an open day on the farm, please keep an eye on the school calendar for more information closer to the time.

You can see lots of photos of our farm here via the school’s Flickr pages and you can subscribe to our newsletter for details of meat box ordering and farm news.

Oathall and Academies

28th August 2017Oathall

Much time has been spent by the governors of the college discussing the impact of the academy programme on Oathall Community College. The view has always been taken that continuous appraisal of the current educational landscape should inform active debate. The decision to enter into a formal consultation programme that would precede any potential conversion process will be taken when the Governing Body believe that this would most likely to secure the next stage of our school improvement.

Academies are defined as publicly-funded independent schools. The independence brings with it a number of freedoms including:

  • freedom from local authority control
  • the ability to set their own pay and conditions for staff
  • freedoms around the delivery of the curriculum
  • It is recognised that the local authority has changed substantially over recent years and its capacity to deliver services and support has been much reduced.

It is also understood that there is no financial imperative for us to convert to an academy. The per-pupil funding is the same for an academy as it is for a school under local authority control.

The aim for the college is to secure continuous improvement as evidenced by outstanding outcomes for the students in its charge. The college has made substantial improvements to its performance already with its results for 2013 being its best ever.

The status of the college is of significant importance and the fact that such notable improvements have been made ensure that we remain in control of this agenda and indeed our destiny.

At present, the Governors are of the opinion that the focus for the college must be to continue our programme of school improvement work. We are a good school with a stated aim to be an outstanding one.

We are keen to hear your views on this matter even before we potentially get to the stage of formal consultation. Please email the college at [email protected] if you would like to express any views.

Following a full day of technical rehearsals the troupe took to the stage at The Hawth and dazzled the crowds with their original dance routine which drew inspiration from traditional fairy tales.

Cinderella made an appearance during the show – which was set against the backdrop of an enchanted forest – along with a coven of terrifying witches!

Over 90 dancers in total took part in the Oathall performance whilst several other students helped out behind the scenes with staging, lighting, hair and make-up.
