On Friday 14 March a group from Oathall Community College took part in the West Sussex Dance Time festival.
The now annual event allows young people the opportunity to perform at professional theatres; over 1000 students from primary, secondary and special schools took part this year.
Oathall’s KS3 Contemporary Dance Club performed a moving piece at The Hawth in Crawley called ‘Safe and Sound’ which drew inspiration from a quote by Abraham Lincoln:
“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
The piece was choreographed by Mrs Avery and Year 11 student Ali Langner.
Mrs Avery said: “This event was a great opportunity for our enthusiastic students to take part on a professional stage improving their appreciation of dance. I’d like to say congratulations to everyone involved, I’m very proud of you.”
Dancers from Oathall have been invited to take part in the Celebration Evening on Friday 25 April, along with 10 other schools from the whole of West Sussex.
The performers
Ali Langner, Bronwen Tingley, Rhiannon Jones, Rebecca Bonanate, Charlotte Weller, Demi Miller, Kaytlin Smith, Andrew Smith, Tianna Bye, Sophie Mitchell, Naomi Johnson, Molly Ashman, Anna Worsley, Annabel Collis, Romy Taylor, Tandra B-Lancaster, Rebecca Mackay, Katie Evans, Darcy Gee, Honey Latter and Petra Demjan.
