Here’s one of our new additions

Spring is an exciting time on the farm with lambs coming into the world round the clock.  Rotas of sleep-deprived students are carrying out late night or early morning vigils – as of Monday 17 March we have welcomed 27 new lambs!

A new Sussex X Ayrshire heifer calf called Holly has joined the Oathall family and new piglets are expected very soon.

A new cockerel has been gifted to us. We have named him Colin (after our recently retired chair of governors) in recognition of his volunteering in the farm shop.  He is very proud of his four new lady friends!

There have been some striking developments in our school garden inspired by our visits to the gardens at Highgrove, home of HRH the Prince of Wales.  Funding for this project has come via an ex-student of OCC, Joe Morphew, who now works for the Co-operative funeral service; it incorporates new fencing and planting.  Our displays of spring bulbs and hellebores are outstanding this year with the weather to match.

March is always the busiest month for our farm trail with playgroups, early years and primary school classes coming in regularly to meet the new lambs.  Mathematicians from several local secondary schools have also visited to weigh the lambs to collect data, look at variables and then interrogate it.

Meet the new lambs at our free family-friendly Lambing Day on Sunday 30 March from 12 to 4pm.
