Oathall’s busy Parent Teacher Association (or OPTA) is a friendly and enthusiastic group of people with a desire to contribute positively to school life.

We aim to encourage positive relationships and communication between parents and teachers, tackling the wellbeing of the school and the welfare and development of our children together.

Like other PTAs we fundraise for those extra things that the school budget cannot cater for whilst strengthening the school community through social events and activities.

What does OPTA do?

We hold monthly meetings which give parents a chance to discuss topical college issues with members of the senior leadership team and find out what’s happening day-to-day.

Oathall staff run termly Spotlight on… sessions about a specific educational topic, they then take questions from attendees.

We run a successful ‘Parent Link’ initiative which enables parents to speak to others about any worries or concerns they may have in the strictest confidence.

We organise a number of events throughout the year to raise funds for the school, these include the Oathall Summer Festival, quiz nights, raffles and tombolas.  Family and friends can also take part in our monthly lottery, OPTAlot!, which guarantees a cash prize every month!

So where do we spend the money raised?

In recent years OPTA has raised a staggering £20 000 which has paid for a new PA system in the school hall, costumes for theatre productions, sports kits and laptops for the maths department.

Five reasons to join us!

  1. OPTA helps you keep up with what’s happening at Oathall
  2. You’ll make new friends and improve your social life
  3. You’ll have the opportunity to use what you know for a great cause and develop new skills as well
  4. OPTA meetings are a forum for exchanging ideas with the school leadership, you will have the opportunity to change school life for the better if you come along
  5. You can show your child that you value education and that you see this as your chance to give something back to the local community.

Although you automatically become a member of OPTA as soon as your child joins the school, we are always looking for new volunteers to take an active role in our work.

You can help out at just one event or offer your time on a more regular basis, it really is up to you.

Please email us via [email protected] with your name and telephone number and someone will get back to you, thanks.
