You Tube’s most subscribed artist, Mark Crilley visits Oathall!

22nd November 2012Oathall

Students at Oathall Community College have been treated to the first ever UK visit from prolific American ‘Manga’ artist, illustrator and author Mark Crilley.  Mark’s visit was the result of a personal letter from Quinn Humphreys a student at the college who wrote asking if he would visit.  Quinn, a fan of Mark’s work , sent such an impressive letter that Mark agreed to come to Oathall!

Mark, who is currently You Tube’s most subscribed artist, started producing his distinctive style in the early nineties while in Japan teaching English.  He wrote and illustrated a comic book story for young readers and watched it grow into a popular comic-book series called “Akiko” that has won him a host of young fans around the world.

Mark is in school working with students in year 9 on a combined English and Art curriculum immersion day.

Youth Sport Trust Young Ambassadors

18th October 2012J Godbolt

Year 9 students Josie Batchelor and Lily Bravo were selected from their year group to train as Youth Sport Trust Young Ambassadors and attend a conference led by Mid Sussex Active and the Youth Sports Trust. Josie and Lily will be part of a team of Young Ambassadors across the country that will work within their schools and local community to continue the London 2012 legacy and work towards increasing sporting participation and promoting its positive values.

Josie Batchelor and Lily Bravo meet GB Diver Pete Waterfield.

The girls were even fortunate enough to meet Great Britain Diver Pete Waterfield. I have every confidence that Josie and Lily will be superb Young Ambassadors and look forward to seeing their ideas put into practice.

Food for Life

16th August 2012Oathall

We are very proud that we have been chosen to be a flagship school for the Food for Life Partnership. This means we are aiming to become a hub for all good things related to food in Haywards Heath and West Sussex from growing and farming to cooking and eating.  Being part of this project means we will be trying to make sure that everyone is eating and enjoying a healthy snack or lunch so they are ready for their lessons, ensuring everyone learns about growing and cooking fresh food so they can take care of themselves as they get older and learning how food choices impact not just on health – but the health of the planet as well.
