On Wednesday 6 March, three members of the Leadership Academy were given the opportunity to volunteer at the Winter Sussex School Games at Lancing College, a huge event involving Primary and Secondary schools from across East and West Sussex. Year 10 students Faye Leslie, Sam Mitchell and Stefan Kohli were allocated jobs to do on the day and with Faye reporting, Sam on information point and Stefan in charge of the VIPs, they made a highly efficient team.
Borde Hill Gardens was the spectacular venue for The Mid Sussex Active Cross Country Championships on 16 January.
The extensive parkland provided a fantastic backdrop for 500 young people from schools all over Mid Sussex and beyond. Oathall students were represented in races in all year groups. The following students and teams deserve special mentions for their performances on the day:
Myles Rice – 1st place, Katie Hastings – 2nd place, Megan Tucker – 3rd place, Tom Easley – 5th place, Evie Curtis – 6th place, Georgia Upton – 6th place
Year 7 girls team – 1st place, Year 8 girls team – 2nd place, Year 9 boys team – 2nd place and Year 10 & 11 girls team – 2nd place.
Thank you to everyone who ran or helped out with marshalling.
Year 9 students Josie Batchelor and Lily Bravo were selected from their year group to train as Youth Sport Trust Young Ambassadors and attend a conference led by Mid Sussex Active and the Youth Sports Trust. Josie and Lily will be part of a team of Young Ambassadors across the country that will work within their schools and local community to continue the London 2012 legacy and work towards increasing sporting participation and promoting its positive values.
The girls were even fortunate enough to meet Great Britain Diver Pete Waterfield. I have every confidence that Josie and Lily will be superb Young Ambassadors and look forward to seeing their ideas put into practice.
