Oathall Community College’s team of Tom Hother, Daniel Kingdom and Andrew Pearcy were announced 2012 National Winners of ‘Youth Speaks’, the Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland (RIBI) public speaking competition, held on Saturday, April 28th in Wrexham.

Oathall, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cuckfield and Lindfield, represented South East England against six other finalists from Wales, Scotland and other regions in England in the senior section.

Their presentation on the subject of ‘Health & Safety: Strangling Common Sense?’ was superb, entertaining and thought-provoking; delivered with confidence and style. As well as being announced as overall winners, Tom Hother was awarded the trophy for Best Speaker and Dan Kingdom received the trophy for Best Vote of Thanks.

Team members Tom Hother, Daniel Kingdom and Andrew Pearcy said:
“This has been a great experience and we are incredibly proud to have represented Oathall and to have contributed to the college’s success. At every round of the competition we gained experience and self-belief; we’ve learnt that being confident and working as a team makes all the difference when it comes to connecting with an audience and answering challenging questions.”
