Enrichment Days 2022: Cuckmere Haven

5th July 2022Joanna Patch

40 students explored Cuckmere Haven for the day, combining some traditional physical geography (cliff erosion, beaches, meanders and of course an ox bow lake!) with nature spotting and meditation within this peaceful rural environment. The highlight of the day was a visiting seal. Fantastic views of the valley were enjoyed on the walk back to the ice cream van. Well done to all of year 8s who participated. You were a pleasure to spend the day with.

Enrichment Days 2022: Buddhist Centre

5th July 2022Joanna Patch

A group of year 9 students went to the Buddhist Centre in the lanes in Brighton. We met one of the Buddhists who taught us how to meditate and led us in a guided meditation for 20 minutes. She was impressed by our ability to do this so well. She then showed us around the centre and the students did a Buddhist scavenger hunt and had the opportunity to ask questions about the objects found. After this lovely visit, we had lunch in the Pavilion gardens before heading to the Brighton Museum to finish our day. Everyone enjoyed the day and said that it was good to find out about different cultures and ways of living. The sun was very kind to us and we all had a great Brighton day out.

Enrichment Days 2022: Bodiam Castle

5th July 2022Joanna Patch

Bodiam castle welcomed 47 year 7 students last Friday. We crossed the moat and into the gatehouse in awe of these impressive ruins. During the morning, students engaged with two activities; a guided tour, which told the story of the castle’s history (including medieval graffiti), and a display of weapons and armoury with the opportunity to try on helms’, bucklers, mail gauntlets, greaves, war bows and broadsword! After a picnic lunch under the trees, students had a treasure hunt where facts about the castle’s occupants were hidden around the courtyard, followed by a climb up one of the round towers to experience the same view the original inhabitants would have seen back in 1385. No school trip is complete without a visit to the gift shop, before the coach journey home. Well done to all of those year 7 students who visited Bodiam Castle, you were a pleasure all day.

Enrichment Days 2022: Hampton Court Palace

5th July 2022Joanna Patch

Over 40 year 8 students explored Hampton Court Palace and learned how Henry Vlll had lived here during the Tudor era. As well as the impressive Great Hall, Chapel Great Watching Chamber and courtyards, we also visited the Great Kitchens where meals were prepared for Henry’s 600 guests, the vast wine cellar, and of course the haunted gallery. Fact-Finding activities were combined with an audio tour. A picnic lunch in the impressive gardens was followed by losing ourselves in the UK’s oldest surviving hedge maze. In fact, some of us lost ourselves more than once. A well-earned ice cream was had before the coach journey home. Well done to all of year 8 who came with us, you were a delight.
