Bodiam castle welcomed 47 year 7 students last Friday. We crossed the moat and into the gatehouse in awe of these impressive ruins. During the morning, students engaged with two activities; a guided tour, which told the story of the castle’s history (including medieval graffiti), and a display of weapons and armoury with the opportunity to try on helms’, bucklers, mail gauntlets, greaves, war bows and broadsword! After a picnic lunch under the trees, students had a treasure hunt where facts about the castle’s occupants were hidden around the courtyard, followed by a climb up one of the round towers to experience the same view the original inhabitants would have seen back in 1385. No school trip is complete without a visit to the gift shop, before the coach journey home. Well done to all of those year 7 students who visited Bodiam Castle, you were a pleasure all day.
