Make Matilda Shine

15th February 2022Joanna Patch

We are very excited to be able to stage our School Production of Matilda this week.

This year we have new comfortable chairs and a fantastic state of the art sound system, funded in part by parents and carers and the wonderful PTA. We are very grateful for these items and the students have been thrilled with these new resources.

Just to make things even better, we would love to fit the hall with brand new lighting bars and LED stage lights. These will be compatible with the new lighting system that has been recently fitted in the drama studio.

From today we will open up a payment option on School Gateway ‘Make Matilda Shine’ allowing you to donate any amount that you would like to.

Could we raise £1,000 before half term?

Assembly Theme: Celebration Year

14th February 2022Joanna Patch

This week our assembly theme is ‘Celebration Year’.

We are halfway through the spring term, and this is a great opportunity to recognise all the things we have achieved.

After a much deserved Christmas break, we have all come back to school with a fresh sense of optimism. Students have been working hard and successes have been achieved in so many ways.

  • Our Year 11 students continue to work towards their GCSEs, and in January, were issued with their mock exam results.
  • Year 9 had their Options Evening.
  • “Whispering Wednesdays” started in the Library as part of our Well-being and mental health initiative. Every Wednesday, students can enjoy a calmer, quieter time in the Library at breaktimes, and this is proving to be an enormous success.
  • Students from years 7, 8, and 9 chose from an impressive selection of activities in preparation for our annual Enrichment Days.
  • Harry Potter Book Night was held in the Library on 2 February and was a huge success.
  • This week students will be performing in our fantastic school production “Matilda”.
  • Our Super Curriculum activities continue to be a great success, with students from years 7, 8 and 9 engaging well with a range of activities.

These are just some of the many achievements enjoyed over this half term, and we are all looking forward to seeing what the next half of the term will bring.

Assembly Theme: Success

7th February 2022Joanna Patch

This week, our Assembly Theme is ‘Success’.

Here we will explore the concept of success and how we each define what ‘success’ actually means to us.

Success is something you have to define for yourself, and no one can do it for you. This assembly explores how success could mean a sense of giving back to the world and making a difference.

Assembly Theme – Well-being

31st January 2022Joanna Patch

This week the theme of our school assemblies will be Well-being.

Well-being can be described as judging life positively and feeling good. This assembly suggests ways you can do this.

The well-being and mental health of our students, parents and staff is something we take seriously. In addition to our continuing work within the school setting, we also have resources available on our website, including information sheets from the NHS giving tips and advice around mental health.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2022

24th January 2022Joanna Patch

Each week our school assemblies are based on different themes, and this week we will be looking at The Holocaust Memorial Day. We look to remember those who were murdered for who they were and to stand against prejudice and hatred today.

In addition to our school assemblies, four members of our Senior Prefect Team will be representing Oathall at the Memorial Service in Haywards Heath on Thursday, 27 January.

Please see the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust website for further information.
