Remembrance Day 2021

8th November 2021Joanna Patch

Here at Oathall, we place a high value on respect, and this is perhaps never more relevant than on Remembrance Day when we pay tribute to those in the armed services, both past, and present.

On Thursday 11th November, we mark Remembrance Day through our school assemblies and a two-minute silence. Poppies are made available in return for a small contribution to the Royal British Legion.

More information about Remembrance Day is available on the Royal British Legion’s website.

We have also been fortunate to be part of the Haywards Heath Schools’ Remembrance Service organised by The Town Council.  The event was held at St Wilfrid’s Church, Haywards Heath, and the service was conducted by Father Edward Pritchett.

GCSE Certificate Collection Change of Date

8th November 2021Joanna Patch

GCSE certificate collection was due to take place on Wednesday 10th November.

Unfortunately, we have been advised by AQA that whilst completing quality assurance checks they have identified formatting issues and therefore the certificates will not arrive in centre until later this month.

As AQA is our exam board for Maths, English and Science the delay in certificates will affect all students and it has been decided to delay certificate collection until Tuesday 7th December.

Certificates will be available for collection from the canteen area between 3:15pm and 4:30pm, please enter through the main gates. Students who are unable to collect their certificates on this afternoon can collect them from reception from Wednesday 8th December.

Please be aware that certificates will not be given to anyone other than the candidate without the student’s written authorisation. Please note that we are legally obliged to retain uncollected certificates for a period of 12 months, after which they may be securely destroyed. We therefore urge you to obtain your certificates promptly.

Oathall Exam Results 2021

12th August 2021J Godbolt

Many congratulations to all Oathall Community College students who are receiving the results of their GCSEs and other qualifications today. Their outstanding outcomes have been achieved under the most extraordinarily difficult circumstances and truly reflect the commitment and hard work of the year group. This will ensure that students can progress onto the next stages of their education with confidence.

Following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards.

Oathall’s headteacher, Edward Rodriguez said:

Oathall students have again achieved very highly and they should be very proud of what they have accomplished. Their resolve and commitment to their studies under the most challenging circumstances is to be applauded.
Teachers have worked extraordinarily hard guiding their students to their highly successful outcomes alongside the tireless support from their parents.

You are a Champion!

9th July 2021J Godbolt

The English team at Oathall is so excited about year 6 joining us in September that they thought the perfect way to share their love of reading was to present all of our new students with the gift of reading in the form of Marcus Rashford’s newly released book, ‘You are a Champion’.

The English team put a lot of thought into our choice and believe that ‘You are a Champion’ will inspire the new cohort to read; that it will build their confidence and self belief, and ultimately that it will help them to see that they can achieve whatever they want to with the right mindset.

The English team can’t wait to meet the next set of champions.

The programme based predominantly on the farm offers short courses to students in years 7 and 8. Students are encouraged to take part in outdoor learning activities with cooking over an open fire being a big hit. Students are responsible for fire lighting and using hand tools to build resources and cooking tools from wood. Equipment and resources for this new addition to the curriculum have been supported by a generous donation from Fairfax Properties ‘Building Young Futures programme’

Mr Blackholly, said

I am delighted with the way that student’s are progressing and we are hoping to develop the resource further making it into an outdoor learning hub for the school.
