Oathall, Imberhorne, Sackville and Downlands took part in an inter-school Oracy competition on Friday of last week. Each school selected students to prepare and deliver a short persuasive speech based on the theme The Future of our Planet.

Anabel, Theo and Rosie represented Oathall, supported by Miss Sanders’ careful coaching. All students performed extremely well, and the speeches covered a wide range of thoughtful and interesting topics.

We are delighted to announce that Theo from Oathall won first prize for his speech on the development of megacities. Well done to everyone who took part.

Rowena Chalk, Chair of Governors, and Mrs Hatchard were pleased to be in the audience, and Miss Sanders also took part as one of the judges.

Same time next year!

Corn snake skin gets full lamination!

Casper – one of two corn snakes that reside at Oathall Farm – has shed his skin again since his last shed in November of last year, and we decided to laminate it in one piece to illustrate its beauty and sheer size!

Students from KS3 attending a decompression session at the Farm earlier this week were only too happy to hold Casper, and what better way to show off the shedded skin on camera.

Oathall’s other corn snake Red is not far behind, as he is currently “in blue”, a change of colour indicating that his next shed will be soon.

Over the last week both snakes have been involved with Y10 Animal Care lessons, where students are producing coursework showcasing their handling skills with a variety of Oathall Farm’s resident animals.

Casper’s laminated skin will be hung up in the Farm Classroom to showcase its full length, it will join other preserved sheds being used in Farm education and outreach to highlight this fascinating aspect of snake biology.

From Monday morning through to Thursday of next week – 23rd to 26th March – students can visit The Book Fair in the library either before or after school, during break or lunchtime, where they can choose from over 200 titles.

For every penny spent at the fair, Scholastic awards credits to our school that can be spent by our librarian in their online book shop.

There will be over 200 books to choose from and students can use their phone, card or cash to pay for their books.

We hope you can support this important initiative. All the information is in the latest library newsletter.

GCSE Drama students rise to the occasion

17th March 2026Nathan Davidson

On Friday of last week our fantastically talented Year 11 Drama students performed the practical part of their GCSE qualification, which accounted for a significant proportion of their final mark.

The day comprised of monologues, duologues and group performances, from well known plays including JB Priestley’s An Inspector Calls, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband.

Each student delivered their very best in demanding conditions under lights, with their performances being assessed by an external examiner, and also recorded.

The support this tight-knit group of students gave each other was tremendous and a joy to witness.

Oathall staff and students celebrated Pi Day on Friday of last week with Pi-themed activities.

There was the Pi-recital of course where Alice from Year 9 absolutely smashed her own school record by almost 100 digits, with a jaw-dropping 199 numerals of Pi written down in order. Some achievement. Specials mentions to Luca (Y7) and Olivia (Y8) who were year group winners.

In addition students were invited to get creative with Pi and the 3D models above were notable entries. The cup holder is embossed with Pi numerals.

Also last week, some Y10 students were invited to Blackthorns Primary School in Lindfield to assist with some Y6 students maths activities.
