Recycling heroes of 7DACN

21st July 2022Joanna Patch

Students in 7DACN were keen to collect recycling at the Oathall Community Day which will go to a local charity, Recycling in Lancing. The many sweet and crisp wrappers will be given to them to be sent off for recycling. Sponsors then reward local charities for such donations.

School half-day – Monday 18 & Tuesday 19 July

17th July 2022J Godbolt

We have been closely monitoring forecasts over the weekend. As a result, a decision has been made to close the school early due to the likelihood of very high temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. The school will close early at 12:30 pm on these days. Normal lessons will be taught up until then, but the DFE has made it clear that physical activities should not take place.

We have taken this decision because of the difficulty in keeping students and staff safely cool in the school buildings, almost all of which have no air conditioning and which face into the sun for the best part of the day.

We hope to be able to rearrange the school bus collection time accordingly. Any students unable to get home will be supervised in the hall (generally cooler).

Our remote learning offer is available to students to facilitate working at home. More details are provided below.

We thank you in advance for your support in this action.

Yours Faithfully

Mr Edward Rodriguez

Please read our student heatwave action plan.

The school games day has been moved to Wednesday 20 July and will be kept under review.

Remote Learning

Remote learning is available to your child while the school is closed. There will not be live teaching, the work will be accessed via your child’s google classrooms. Classroom codes can be found here, your child should follow their usual timetable and look at subjects which they are due to be taught. Teachers will email their classes directly, giving them any additional instructions about their learning and attach any resources they may need.

In Years 7,8 & 9, students may also like to attempt one of our Super Curriculum activities.

If you have any questions regarding remote learning please feel free to email your child’s teacher directly or email [email protected]

Rocket challenge

13th July 2022Joanna Patch

Some of our year 8 and year 9 students took part in the infamous Rocket Challenge which is run by the DT department.  Activities included making paper aeroplanes, shooting paper mice as high as they could with milk bottles and then finally designing and making their rockets (from 2 litre plastic bottles) before launching them into the sky using water and air pressure.  A lot of fun and learning was had by all.  Well done to all the students!
