KS3 Super Curriculum

11th October 2022Joanna Patch

This week sees the launch of this year’s exciting Super Curriculum scheme, especially for students in years 7, 8 and 9.

Super-curricular activities are voluntary. Students are invited to take part in a selection of activities designed to extend the regular classroom curriculum even further. They take the subjects beyond the point students have studied in the classroom or what they’ve done for home learning. They may go into more depth on something students will have learned in the classroom setting or learn about a new topic altogether.

These activities can take many forms, such as;

  • Extra reading
  • Watching videos online
  • Downloading podcasts
  • Visiting museums
  • Entering academic competitions

Students will be provided with a Super Curriculum Passport, which they are invited to view and complete some of the Super Curriculum activities. These are all available to explore on our Super Curriculum pages.

Engaging in super curricular activities will help students develop a love for their favourite subject (or subjects). It will help them to develop their academic knowledge and research skills. In the booklet, available on our super curriculum page mentioned above, is a range of subject-specific activities suggested by their teachers.

Once a task has been completed, students will need to show this to their subject teacher. The teacher will then furnish them with a sticker for their passport and a credit. The aim is for students to complete their passports during the academic year.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to participate in activities and will be of great interest to future employers or colleges. They will be interested in what they have learned and impressed by their efforts.

Sports clubs are now up and running, with more clubs for different year groups and sports being added to the programme over the coming school year. Trials for any team fixtures take place every week in the afterschool club, but importantly, we always want our students to enjoy playing their sport and join in the fun of club time!
