Girls STEM Inspiration Trip

7th April 2022Joanna Patch

Oathall students have enjoyed more success at the Girls STEM Inspiration Trip.  The event allowed them to enjoy taking part in activities designed to introduce students to some new maths, including imaginary numbers.

Our students had a fantastic time and participated in activities exploring STEM careers, and were shown how maths is used in space exploration.

The Dragon Race was a tremendous success, and our girls showed great enthusiasm in this team event.  Participants were split into four teams and raced against each other to solve challenging maths questions. With every question they answered correctly, the team got to put a card down to build their dragon – the longest dragon won.

Our students won 1st equal place (two teams), and everyone involved had a fantastic time.

Thank you to Ms Ramsey for organising the event, and congratulations to our students.

Maths Challenges

7th April 2022Joanna Patch

Oathall students have taken part in two maths challenges so far this year; the Senior (Year 11) and the Intermediate (Years 10 and 11).

The challenges aim to allow our students to use mathematical thinking, logic and problem solving to work on several questions that look beyond the national curriculum.

Fifteen of our students participated in the Senior Maths Challenge, which is open to Years 11, 12 and 13.  Entering this level allowed our students to really push themselves in preparation to move on to A-Level mathematics.

In total, Oathall had twenty students across years 10 and 11 participating in the Intermediate Maths Challenge this year. Five of our students managed to score highly in the challenge, progressing them onto the next round of the competition, where two have achieved a merit.

Looking forward to the Junior Maths Challenge, which is aimed at Year 7 and 8 students, so far we have had 105 students sign up to take part at the end of April.

The Great Oathall Bake Off

5th April 2022Joanna Patch

We are looking for eight students from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 to take part in our live bake-off on Friday 17 June 2022.

We will supply the ingredients and equipment. You just need to bring the decorating items.

We are looking for a novel, well-presented and tasty creation to impress the judges.

This year’s theme is: the Fifa World Cup

To be in with a chance of being a participant, just bake your creation at home, take a photo of yourself and your cake, and either email it to Mrs Kirkpatrick ([email protected]) along with your name, tutor group and recipe (including ingredients). Alternatively, just print it off and hand it to your group tutor by Monday, 6 June.

Success for the Oathall Leaders

5th April 2022Joanna Patch

Our fantastic Oathall Leaders have been working towards running events for local primary schools.

On Thursday 31st March, 13 primary schools from Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill came to Oathall to take part in a Netball year 3/4 festival.

The sports leaders planned 13 different stations varying from the technique of throwing in netball, creating space, defending, attacking, fitness stations and netball matches.

The primary school pupils had a fantastic time and were thoroughly engaged throughout the 90 minutes they were at Oathall.

Our Leaders did an amazing job and are excited about more events and the opportunity to help in primary schools in the future.

Well done to all involved.

Ukraine Fundraiser Event

30th March 2022Joanna Patch

Oathall will be holding a school fundraiser happening during the week beginning 4 April. The money we raise as a school will go towards providing food, water, medical care and other necessities for Ukrainian refugees. Students will be walking a mile during their PE lesson in solidarity with those who are having to flee Ukraine.

A suggested voluntary donation of £1.50 from each student will be available on School Gateway, but any amount beyond that is very welcome.

The government has also pledged to match the total funds we raise.

Many thanks in advance for your support.
