Students were invited to attend a celebratory brunches this week with the Headteacher and their Heads of Year, to recognise the achievement of attaining A1 grades for every subject last term.

Autumn term A1 certificates awarded Y10
A1’s are awarded in recognition of a student’s positive attitude to learning.

To earn this award in every subject is an outstanding achievement.

There were breakfasts for year 7 and 8 students earlier this week. Congratulations to all of them!

All eight ewes are pregnant – seven with twins

28th January 2026Nathan Davidson

All eight ewes are pregnant, seven with twinsThere was much excitement on the Farm on Monday as it was revealed that all eight of our ewes are pregnant, and seven of them are carrying twins.

Our sheep scanner Malcolm’s visit was incorporated in an impromptu way into the Y10 Animal Care practical lesson. A small number of Animal Care students were able to observe the scanning and marking of the ewes to determine whether they were pregnant with singles, twins or triplets.

I’m pleased to say it appears all 8 ewes are pregnant, with 7 expecting twins and one expecting a single lamb. The ewes are now marked with spray paint accordingly, with blue for two and red for one.

Students pause to remember and reflect on Holocaust Memorial Day

27th January 2026Nathan Davidson

Students reflect at Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration featured image
School Captains – Etty, Tsiona, Erin, Mazvita and Toby – did an exceptional job representing Oathall Community College at Haywards Heath’s Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) commemoration earlier today at the Town Hall.

They stood and read clearly and compassionately in front of a full room of attendees which included local dignitaries, as well as teachers and students from other local schools.

The theme of the service was Bridging Generations – and representatives of a number of different faiths spoke eloquently about what HMD means for their followers and communities. Attendees also had the opportunity to lay wreaths and stones as a symbol of remembrance.

This event is a key part of the week in which Oathall staff and students remember the estimated six million Jews that were murdered at concentration and death camps across German-occupied Europe.

Students all set for Intermediate Mathematical Challenge

27th January 2026Nathan Davidson

UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge website featured imageOn Wednesday 28th January, students across years 9, 10 and 11, will take part in the UK Maths Trust’s (UKMT) Intermediate Mathematical Challenge.

Each year, Oathall enters students into the Challenge – and those that score highly enough, are invited to take part in further maths challenges including Junior Kangaroo and Junior Mathematical Olympiad – as well as earn Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates in school. Certificates are also awarded for best in school and best in year.

The UKMT was established to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. They aim to achieve this in particular, but not exclusively, by organising and running mathematics competitions.

The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge is a 60 minute, 25 multiple choice challenge. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency to make students think. The problems are mostly accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.

Students from years 7 and 8 will take part in their own Challenge later this year.

We’ll keep you posted on how our students participate and achieve in these events.
