Today, our Year 8 and 9 Book Club, ‘The Teenage Bookworms,’ attended an author talk by Adam Connors, the author of ‘The Girl Who Broke The Sea’ and ‘Find Me After.’ We are currently reading the latter as part of the Southern Schools Book Awards. Mr Connors provided deeper insights into the book, discussing its plot and the inspiration behind it. We look forward to our next book club meeting to share our reflections![]()
Today staff and students at Oathall are “Wearing Red” in support of the charity Show Racism the Red Card. We have had assemblies this week delivered by our outstanding School and House Captains to deliver this message. Today we are wearing red to hold up our own red cards and to demonstrate that we stand in solidarity against racism and prejudice in all its forms. We also hope to raise awareness about the importance of anti-racism education so that we can live in a fair and equal society where racism is seen as completely unacceptable.
We’re incredibly proud of our students who have successfully completed their Higher Project Qualification (HPQ). To recognise their hard work and dedication, they were invited to a special celebration event with Head Teacher Mr Houghton and HPQ coordinator Ms Somers this week.
It was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge their achievements and reflect on the skills they’ve developed throughout the project. Well done to all involved!
For Black History Month 2025, we are dedicating time in assemblies and tutor time to cover a range of issues highlighting and discussing the contribution that Black people have made in society and in WW1. In tutor time, our weekly ‘Votes for School’ topic will be specifically looking at how fashion can teach us about Black History. On Friday 17 October students will take part in a day of action by wearing a red item of clothing in support of the campaign to Show Racism the Red card. This will be supported by a week of assemblies on the topic delivered by students.
