The latest edition of the Oathall library newsletter is now available for families to view.
Our last day of this term will be Friday, 15 December. On this day, students will only need to bring books and equipment for periods 1 and 2. After an assembly and tutor time, students will be dismissed from school before lunch at approximately 12:30. School bus times have been adjusted accordingly.
We plan to run our ‘speed networking’ event on 30 January for our year 10 students and are looking for people who would be willing to come into school to talk to students about their jobs. The format is that the adults sit at desks spaced around the hall, and students (in groups of 3/4) have to work their way around the room, spending five minutes with each person. In those five minutes, they ask a series of questions to try and figure out what that person does for a job. So the questions will be things like “Do you work in an office?” “Do you work with the public?” “Do you need to go to university to do your job?” “Can you work from home?” etc.
It should be a fun afternoon and doesn’t require any preparation from participants – just a willingness to chat with students and hopefully inspire them with how fabulous your job is.
Participants would need to come to school for at 12.15, and we would run two one-hour sessions with a break in between, finishing at the end of the school day at 3.05 pm.

Oathall is proud to announce the re-launch of ‘Youth Speaks’, a public speaking group organized in collaboration with the esteemed Sussex Rotary Club.
This an exciting opportunity to challenge communication skills and empower students to make their voices heard on important issues. It also aims to develop critical thinking abilities and engage in thought-provoking debates.
The program is open to students from both intermediate (11-13 years old) and senior (14-17 years old) age groups. No previous public speaking experience is required, as we’ll be providing comprehensive coaching and support throughout.
The next stage of the program is a ‘local heat’ to be held at Downlands School Hassocks on Wednesday, 10 January, starting at 5:00 pm.
Students are invited to come to H4 to get a registration form from Miss Blunden before the end of the Autumn Term. Forms must be returned to Miss Blunden by the end of school on Friday, 15 December.
This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance Duke of Edinburgh Award or Sixth Form applications, develop communication skills, and step out of the comfort zone.
As part of our festive celebrations, we are pleased to announce that the annual Christmas lunch for our students will be held on Thursday, 14 December.
This traditional festive lunch is a sit down meal to be eaten in the canteen. Tickets are on sale from at a cost of £4.00 per ticket and can be purchased via ParentPay only. If your child is entitled to a free school meal and would like a Christmas lunch ticket please email Mrs Crockford by midday on Friday, 8 December.
Ticket numbers are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Any student wishing to have a Christmas Lunch must purchase their ticket by midday on Friday, 8 December, as tickets will not be available after this time.
Students may still use the canteen for other food and drink purchases but there will be a limited selection available on this date.
Join us on Tuesday, 12 December, 7:00pm to 8:00pm, for an evening of carols in the farm barn with music provided by the Oathall orchestra and choir.
Refreshments including: mulled wine, hot drinks, mince pies
This is a free event.

This week 15 Y9 students had a fantastic trip to First Central in Haywards Heath as part of the Love Local Jobs Foundation Dare to Dream Programme. The students had a great time doing a series of workshops, including a virtual escape room, and learnt about some of the different roles at First Central. Plus they got to meet Rhian Cleverly, captain of Lewes Football Club, the first professional or semi-professional football club in the world to fund its male and female teams equally.

We need your Christmas chocolate, sweets & treats this Christmas!
We are planning to run a chocolate tombola this Christmas during the intervals of the ‘We Will Rock You!’ performances.
We would love you to help by donating Christmas chocolates, sweets and treats over the next week.
