Making informative solar system models

4th March 2025E

Year 7 students spent a lesson researching the solar system and found out interesting facts, as well as how they could go about making an informative solar system model. They then spent the next few weeks at home collating resources and making their solar system model before showcasing to the class in a museum day lesson what they had done and found out. There were some fantastic and unique models and it was great to see lots of different approaches from students on how to approach the task. They all had the chance to present to students and other teachers about what they had learnt, and it was great to see all the students engaging in the project!

Speed Networking 2025

7th February 2025E
Y10 students had an amazing afternoon speed networking as part of our Extended Learning Programme this week. Thanks to the more than 40 brilliant volunteers who gave up their time to talk to the students about their jobs – from firefighters and therapists to corporate lawyers and cyber security experts we had such a diverse range of industries represented. One volunteer,  Mark Dunford – editor at Sussex Express – even wrote about the experience of talking to our students for the paper’s website:

Extended Learning Day 2025

27th January 2025E

On Tuesday 4 February our students will be taking part in the next extended learning afternoon. The details of which are as follows:

Year 7 – The focus of the afternoon is entrepreneurship and the ‘Make £5 grow project’.

Students will work together in small groups and come up with a business idea. They will have to research their idea and put together a business plan including financial projections. They will then pitch their business to their tutor and tutor group. Two businesses from each tutor group will be selected as the winning teams, we will then give them £5 per person to set up the business.

Year 8 – Students will be based in the Mathematics department and spend the afternoon taking part in activities that help to develop their financial awareness.

Year 9 – We will be launching the option process with students; this will involve an assembly and each student participating in three taster lessons from a variety of subjects they have chosen from.

Year 10 – Students will spend the afternoon focusing on careers and their future plans. We have a large number of volunteers coming into school from various industries and the students will get to speak to them and ask them questions in a speed networking activity.

Year 11 – Students will be completing a mock examination in English. They will go on an early lunch so please be aware that although the canteen will be open it will only have sandwiches and wraps available. If your child has extra time please note the exam will finish later than the normal finish time of 3.05pm.

The focus for each year group varies but I am sure you will agree they are all worthwhile educational activities.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2025

27th January 2025E

On Friday 24th January our Year 9 students, Charlotte, Roxy, Immi, Luke, Fletcher, Dylan, Anya, Shannon, and Pippa represented Oathall Community College at the Haywards Heath Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony. A multi-faith ceremony led by the mayor of Haywards Heath, Stephanie Inglesfield and representatives of Amnesty International West Sussex. Our students delivered a number of readings alongside students from Great Walstead School in what was a very meaningful reminder of the importance of remembering the Holocaust and all genocides since World War Two. We are very proud of the students who volunteered to represent the College at this important event️.

Christmas Toy Appeal 2024

12th December 2024E

Oathall families donated a wonderful array of toys and gifts that will bring joy to so many children this Christmas

Our students played a vital role in this initiative, giving up time to sort and organise the donations before delivering them to The Bentswood Hub. The toys will be distributed in various meaningful ways including the Bentswood hub Christmas party, bespoke Christmas hampers for specific families they work with as well as through social workers working directly with families in our community. This project has demonstrated the power of our community coming together.

We have been overwhelmed by the kindness shown by our amazing families and would like to say a huge thank you!
