Readers and Scribes

We are looking to recruit staff to join our bank of readers, scribes and invigilators to support students taking exams and tests throughout the school year. Readers and scribes work with students who are restricted in their ability to read or write and will write down a students dictated answers in an exam or test, and will also read aloud written text.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a good level of literacy & numeracy. (Usually equivalent of a good pass at GCSE/Level 2)

This is a casual post (paid hourly) £9.52 per hour. There are no set hours for these posts. The work takes place during school term-times and within the school working day. We call on staff as and when there is a need and we work flexibly with you to accommodate your own needs. Although we need readers and scribes throughout the school year there is a higher demand at peak exam periods in the summer term.

Premises Lettings assistant – part-time

Oathall is looking for a part-time premises lettings assistant to join our friendly premises team.

We welcome all applications but our experience shows that this job is particularly suitable for young adults who are looking for casual or part-time work to support them during their further education. We pay £9.52 per hour which is extremely favourable when compared to the minimum pay for young people working in other sectors.

We are looking for someone with a positive, flexible ‘can-do’ attitude who takes pride in their work. The role will frequently involve liaison with hirers and with staff, parents and students. You will need a good customer service manner and be happy talking to a range of people.

Hours of work

During term-time you will normally work between 4 to 15 hours a week working on 1 to 3 weekday evenings with Saturday mornings on a rota. An average weekday shift will start at around 5pm and finish at just after 9pm. Saturday mornings you will be required to be on site between 8.30am and 1pm. From time to time we may ask you to assist with a longer let on a weekend day. The work is generally all year round.  Extra hours working on other site projects in school holiday periods are often available.

Job Description

Cover Supervisors required for immediate start

We are seeking highly motivated, confident and well organised people to join our staff as Cover Supervisors. The post will suit someone with a natural ability to engage with young people. The position is an outstanding opportunity to gain experience in a school environment, possibly as a step towards a career in teaching.

Cover supervisors oversee whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers and generally assist pupils in undertaking set activities. They are also required to supervise students at lunchtime. When they are not covering a lesson they carry out a range of administrative tasks that can draw on the individual’s particular skill set.

Oathall is an ambitious and forward thinking 11-16 community college with 1000 students. We are strategic partners in a local Teaching School Alliance.   The school is characterised by our high expectations and an absolute commitment to raising standards and achievement for all.

Experience as a Cover Supervisor isn’t necessary but a keenness to develop your skills and knowledge of working with young people is essential. A full induction package, ongoing training and development will be provided. The school is extremely supportive of staff considering progressing into teaching and can actively guide people into teacher training.

You would be expected to work Monday to Friday, 8.45 to 3.15 including an unpaid 30 minute break. There are 5 teacher INSET days that you would not be expected to attend. The post is term time only.
