2024 Oathall Colour Run

25th June 2024J Godbolt

Oathall hosted it’s very first house charity colour run last Wednesday. We had over 250 students take part and the event raised over £650 for the school’s house charities.

Students had to run 1 mile around the athletics trap whilst getting coloured paint powered thrown over them along the way! It was a fantastic way for our students to get active, have fun and raise money for some really important charities. It was a wonderful occasion for the school community, with many teachers throwing the paint and some even running!

The results from the house competition will be revealed to students in assemblies very soon.

12th June 2024J Godbolt

As has been the tradition for many years some of Oathall’s students proudly represented the school at the annual South of England show held in Ardingly. Our students helped by leading the fabulous livestock parades held each afternoon. They led out the parades of prize winning livestock holding up the category boards at the head of each group of animals.

12th June 2024J Godbolt

Pride month takes place in June every year and celebrates LGBTQIA+ lives and people.  At Oathall, we support this by holding a series of assemblies for students exploring what Pride is, why Pride month exists and milestones from recent history and the challenges that may lay ahead for the LGBTQIA+. These themes will be tied into the school’s character values  of respect and equality, resilience and independence and postitivity and confidence.

Student success in May

30th May 2024J Godbolt

The month of May has brought a raft of successes in competitions for Oathall’s students.

In languages, Robyn in Year 8 and Edward in Year 9 took part in the UK wide Anthea Bell Translation Competition. This is a UK-wide translation competition organised by Queen’s College, Oxford University, this year the jury received over 3,600 entries from 16,000 students. The judges remarked on the high standard and fantastic creativity on display from our students. Robyn translated from Spanish to English while Edward translated from German to English, both of them working on literary texts. The names of the winners will be published on the official website of Queen’s College on the 5th of June.

The competitors taking part in the Y9 Maths picnicAnd in maths, 6 of our Y9 students went along to the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme inter-school Y9 picnic at Ardingly college. This competiton involves teams of students undertaking a number of rounds of maths challenges and problem solving. Our teams came 1st and 3rd.

On 21 May, Oathall’s second Youth Speaks internal public speaking competition was held at the school. Our students once again captivated the audience with their confidence, research skills, and thought-provoking debates. The winners were:

Best Team: Eleri, Phoebe, and Tallulah. These first-time speakers tackled the ethics of dark tourism and 9/11 with impressive maturity.
Best Proposer: Joe, our future comedy star, had the audience in stitches with his winning proposal.
Best Opposer: Caitlin displayed incredible adaptability, even reworking her speech last minute on student loans.
Best Chair: Erin kept a cool head and ensured a balanced debate on phones in schools.
Special Recognition:

And a special mention should be made for all our year 7s taking part. Their dedication to Youth Speaks and the progress they’ve made is truly inspiring.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

Parent Partnership meeting: Thursday, 2 May

24th April 2024Joanna Patch

Parent Partnership meeting: Thursday, 2 May – 5 pm – Oathall Library

Agenda: Accelerated Reader Discussion

Are you confused about the Accelerated Reader programme? Are you unsure how to help your child with the quizzes at home? What do the results mean?

Come and chat with our librarian, Debra Perrin. She’ll be around to talk about the Accelerated Reader programme and answer any questions you have.

The Parent Partnership was established in March 2018 and meets once every half term to discuss important issues for both parents and the school. It aims to be successful in contributing positively to the development of our School Community. The Partnership has a dual purpose:

  • Provides a stakeholder panel for views on new initiatives and developments within the school
  • Provides parents with a voice in the development of the school

The group will meet in the library at Oathall between 5 pm and 6 pm. All parents are welcome to attend; there is no commitment required. Please do come along and offer your voice to the discussions. The agenda for each meeting is sent out to all parents via the school email system the week before the meeting takes place.

For further information please contact Miss Froud, Assistant Headteacher, 01444 414001 or via email on [email protected]
