Extended Learning Day 2024

10th October 2024E
Our first Extended Learning afternoon took place this week! This is an opportunity for our students to experience a variety of extra curricular activities and life skills that are an extension of our usual curriculum.
The focus for year 7 and 9 was team building, there were many activities and challenges that students took part in and we also had Tiny Tekkers in school running some of these activities. Year 8 were away from classes today to experience ‘take your child to work day’.
Year 10 got to experience ‘A Christmas Carol’ come to life with a fantastic performance from the Globe Players theatre company. They aim to stimulate imaginations and and inspire young audiences by bringing the enriching experience of theatre to as many schools as possible. This was followed up by a workshop where students came up with a modern interpretation of a key scene from the play which they then performed, this links to their GCSE English text.
Year 11 students focused on coursework and revision in preparation for their upcoming mock exams.

Black History Month

1st October 2024E

October 1st marks the start of Black History Month and the history department are running a competition to honour it and celebrate diverse stories.

We would like students to research a diverse story and submit a piece of work that summarises how it helps to celebrate black history in Britain. This could be in the format of:

  • A written piece
  • A video explaining why the story is so important
  • An artistic piece that portrays the story

For example, this might be a personal story or a novel written by a black author.

These are just some ideas – history teachers will discuss this during lesson time this week. Entries will go towards the monopoly boards and house points! The deadline will be 15.1.24
