A large group of Year 9 students visited the STEM Centre at Gatwick for the Gatwick Apprenticeships Fair yesterday. This was a great opportunity to talk to a range of employers about apprenticeships and possible future pathways, and was perfectly timed as they think about their GCSE options.
They spoke confidently, listened carefully, and came away with lots of great ideas.

A reminder that parents are invited to attend the Year 9 Options Evening on Thursday 26th February from 6pm.
The evening will provide you and your child with information on the options process, the timeline and give you an opportunity to explore the vast array of subjects on offer at Key Stage 4 and to speak with staff.

As for the evening itself, the itinerary is as below.

6pm… Parents and students from all tutor groups arrive

7pm… Visit Key Stage 4 courses and speak with teaching staff.
8pm… End of KS4 information evening

There were double celebrations yesterday as the Under 15 boys and Under 13 girls were both crowned district champions after winning their respective tournaments.
The win caps an outstanding season for the U15 boys, who can now proudly call themselves both Mid Sussex Cricket and Football Champions. An amazing effort from a special group of players!

Despite playing in extremely challenging conditions, the team showed incredible resilience, determination and teamwork throughout the tournament. The girls delivered an outstanding defensive performance, not conceding a single goal across the entire competition.

These are fantastic achievements for the players involved. Oathall would like to thank them for their supreme efforts and congratulate them on these spectacular wins.
There was a buzz around Oathall on Tuesday afternoon as year 7-10 students engaged in Extended Learning activities across the school.
This was the second of three Extended Learning sessions on the school calendar this year.
Year 7 students got involved in the Make £5 grow nationwide challenge. In small groups they devised plans and hatched schemes to generate profits for their businesses. In turn they presented their business ideas to their fellow students from the presentations they created.
Year 8’s STEM projects – think hands-on activities integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – included analysing soil and pen samples to solve mysteries.
Year 9 had a chance to attend four taster sessions ahead of choosing their options in Key Stage 4.
And finally, year 10 students enjoyed an at times frenetic, speed networking afternoon. We are indebted to everyone that gave their time to make this activity happen. An incredibly varied number of occupations were represented, ranging from biochemists and property developers, to intensive care nurses and video game designers.
At the end of last month Oathall Community College welcomed students and staff from their Federation Schools – Downlands Community School, Imberhorne School and Sackville School – and Ensemble Reza and Rebetiko Carnival, to join them for Federation Music Day, and it was a resounding success.
The students collaborated to rehearse and perform a range of songs including I’m A Believer and Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds, as well as some Greek Rebetiko songs.
It’s always an inspiring experience when this many musicians get together, and this was no different. I’m very grateful to the staff at our Federation Schools, Ensemble Reza and the Rebetiko Carnival for getting fully behind this project – and of course to the students for their musicianship, dedication and the joyful learning experience they created.

A hands-on day at the Applied Sciences dept of the University of Brighton last week, when some of our Y11s got to put on white coats and learn about studying science at university.
They did electrophoresis in the Biology lab, studied microplastics in the Geography dept, experimented with calibrated and non-calibrated pH meters in Chemistry and finally made capsules in Pharmacology.
It was a packed day and we were made to feel so welcome by the university staff and students alike.

Oathall Community School are hosting an exclusive prom dress sample sale on Wednesday 11th March, from 3.15 to 4.30pm, in the School Hall.
There will be a selection of curated, end-of-season dresses available, which have been donated by some top prom retailers including Cinderella’s – but at a fraction of the retail price!
Take a big step towards being prom-ready.
Students were invited to attend a celebratory brunches this week with the Headteacher and their Heads of Year, to recognise the achievement of attaining A1 grades for every subject last term.
A1’s are awarded in recognition of a student’s positive attitude to learning.
To earn this award in every subject is an outstanding achievement.
There were breakfasts for year 7 and 8 students earlier this week. Congratulations to all of them!
