On Wednesday next week – 7 October – the afternoon will be devoted to the first of three Extended Learning sessions this academic year.
The activities our students participate in, will be according to their year group, as below.
Year 7 – The focus of the afternoon is Teamwork and we have Tiny Tekkers coming in to run a workshop for students alongside a tutor based teambuilding activity. Students are to come into school in their PE kit.
Year 8 – Students will either be out of school taking part in the Take your child to work day or be onsite taking part in some work related activities.
Year 9 – Students will have an afternoon session on employability skills. There will be an Industry Spotlight presentation followed by activities in tutor bases and the launch of our new careers platform Unifrog. This platform includes features such as psychometric testing quizzes, career and subject exploration, webinars and interactive short courses, and also includes search tools for live apprenticeship and employer opportunities, as well as university courses. It will be an incredibly valuable resource for our students.
Year 10 – We have the theatre company The Globe Players coming into school to perform A Christmas Carol for the students. This will be accompanied by a workshop in English related to the play. Parents can make a payment for this on ParentPay.
The performance links to the Year 10 GCSE English curriculum and will enable the characters and themes to be brought to life for our students.
Year 11 – Students will be completing coursework or taking part in revision workshops in Maths. Students will be told what their individual plan is for the afternoon.
