It is with much pride and satisfaction that I can report to you a hugely successful Work Experience week has been recently completed by all Year 10 students.

Students were offered placements in a wide range of employment sectors including retail, finance & insurance, sport & leisure, catering & hospitality, education, pharmaceutical, uniformed services, travel, marketing, veterinary medicine & animal care, motor vehicle, IT & design, engineering, farming & horticulture, building services, medicine & dentistry, hair & beauty, performing arts.  Some students independently secured their own placements whilst others used the area data base and College contacts to find a suitable company to visit for the week.

Staff monitored students throughout the week and the feedback received from the companies and work supervisors was extremely complimentary of our students.  Indeed there are many students who have been offered part time or holiday employment as a result of the successful work experience.  Some of the comments from employers were truly outstanding, for example:

“He showed great interest and I would consider him for an apprenticeship position”

“A pleasure to work with, she maintained a very positive and enthusiastic approach to every aspect of our work together”

“Lovely to see a young student so motivated and determined in following a career path”

“Someone with her attitude and personality would be a welcome addition to the team”

“He has thrown himself into all the work roles with a keen and professional manner.  He should be proud of the work standard he can achieve”

“Excellent student and would certainly have him on the staff, so have offered him a part-time job”

“She showed a keen interest to learn and get the most out of this experience”

“I have told her that when she is 16 there is a job here for her”

“She has been an absolute credit to her school and family”

“It’s a pity they couldn’t stay longer!”

Students should be congratulated on their week and I feel confident that it has helped to support future work and career choices.  We have encouraged students to look for other placements independently in the coming years to extend their experience and knowledge of the World of Work.  Being able to state on a CV that a student has had a range of work and employment opportunities can only be of benefit when applying for full time positions in the future.

We must say a big thank you to Ms Hart who has worked tirelessly over many months to finalise all the necessary paperwork and has done a brilliant job organising placements for all students in year 10.  Thank you also to parents who supported the process financially which paid for the necessary risk assessment checks.

Thank you and well done to all year 10 students.
