National Recognition For Our Outstanding Artists

10th July 2013Mrs L BRUCE

The National Students Art Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London

Congratulations to our gifted and talented Art and Photography students whose work has been selected to be exhibited in The National Students Art Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London. The exhibition, which opened on the 9 July, is under the patronage of the Royal Society of British Artists and it is a marvellous accolade for the artists and schools selected.  This is the third year running that Oathall students’ work has been exhibited and we are delighted that so many of our students have been recognised at this level.

And here’s a clip of our students being interviewed.

U15 Rounders Champions

24th May 2013Oathall

On Wednesday 26 May, the U15 Rounders team won the West Sussex PE Girls Association area tournament.

The girls played exceptionally well throughout,  beating Weald 10-2,  Downlands 5-5½, Hazelwick 10-3 and Warden Park 5-1. We drew against Millais 5-5 but luckily still got into the final.  We were up against Burgess Hill School for Girls.

It was a great game, the girls held their own and won 4-1 ½ getting 8 of the opposition players out! Congratulations to all who played, an amazing victory!

Heathfield Show 2011

Ben with his award after the show

On 28 May we took seven cattle to the annual Heathfield Show and came away with a fantastic four first prize cards!

Our star performers were Oathall Rustic Milkmaid 2 in the dry cow class, her daughter Oathall Rustic Milkmaid 5 in the heifer calf class, and Ava Frohmader in the handlers class. Oathall Rustic Milkmaid 5 won the East Sussex Ayrshire Cattle Club Perpetual Tankard.

OCC student Ben Keegan was the winner of one of the most prestigious awards to be handed out at this years show. Fifteen year old Ben who recently completed a land-based course at Oathall, scooped The Henry Noakes Young Achiever Trophy, named after one of Heathfield Agricultural Society’s founding members. Ben was presented with his trophy by Angela Deakin, the daughter of Henry Noakes.

Ben has been a star student at Oathall but it was his work with our pig herd and his support for younger students on the farm which prompted Mr Wood to write a glowing testimonial on his behalf.

Ben has reared his own pigs and turned them into sausages some of which were enjoyed at the stockman’s BBQ at the south of England show recently!

On 9 March the group repaired and moved a large woodern planter in the school garden and tidied up some of the beds.
